Camping in spring

The days are getting longer, the temperatures are rising... and there it is again, that tingling feeling. And the urge to finally get going again. #Letscamp!

Spring is the perfect season to set off for the Interlaken holiday region in a camper van, caravan or roof tent for many reasons: it's not too busy yet, and nature is showing off its colourful side. With good preparation, nothing stands in the way of your camping happiness.

Here are some recommendations:

  • Spontaneity is part of the camping experience, and spring (and autumn, for that matter) is the perfect time to embrace it. The campsites around Lakes Thun and Brienz are usually not very busy in spring, so you can arrive without a reservation. But beware: not all sites open in March or April. So draw up a rough travel plan and find out in advance about the seasonal opening times of the sites. Also note that different booking policies may apply during the spring holidays, so it's a good idea to book in advance, especially if you want to stay right by the lake.

  • Check the condition of your vehicle before departure. Remember that temperatures can still drop below freezing at night. Depending on the altitude, sudden winter weather is not uncommon at this time of year. Extra warm blankets are therefore absolutely essential. Take a look at our winter camping packing list.
  • Spring in the valley, winter at higher altitudes: if you want to actively explore nature, pack plenty of warm clothing. The layering principle has proven itself here, allowing you to adapt flexibly to the weather conditions.
  • If you enjoy spending time in the mountains, keep an eye out for special spring offers, such as the Spring Promotion on Lake Thun (three of the five top destinations around Lake Thun at a special price). The Berner Oberland Pass and the Jungfrau Travel Pass will also help you keep your travel budget down. However, please note the operating hours, as many railways close for maintenance after the winter season or do not open until later in the season.
